Google Pay Debit Card

Google Debit Card

In 2014, when Google Pay was known as Google Wallet, google offered a debit card which you could use with your Wallet balance. The company closed google wallet in 2016, but now it appears that the company is again working on it.

Google, the tech giant, is developing its own physical and virtual debit card. The company confirmed the news in a statement

Here’s that statement from Google –

” We’re exploring how we can partner with banks and credit unions in the US to offer smart checking accounts through google pay, helping their customers benefit from useful insights and budgeting tools while keeping their money in an FDIC or NCUA and shared account. Our lead partners today are city and Stanford Federal Credit Union and we look forward to sharing more details in the coming months’ end “  Google

The latest news of a Google Pay Debit Card was broken by TechCrunch, the site found images that showed that Google was working on a physical and virtual debit card.

Google didn’t comment on a physical card but it makes logical sense that card should be attached to Google’s smart checking account. Also let’s keep in mind that this would be a debit card, not a credit card.

So, let’s talk about the images TechCrunch found / Google Debit Card Features

There’s a white card with your name, a circular logo with blue and green dots. There’s also branding for the partner Bank. It looks like these are marks-ups. The dot logo would likely be the bank’s logo.

If you think your card number was compromised you can reset the card number right in the app. The images also showed how purchases would look in the app.

Debit Card users are able to add money or transfer funds of their account from the connected Google application, which is probably going to be Google Pay and can use a fingerprint and PIN for account security.

You could see the vendor, what you paid, the time and the date of the transaction plus a map showing where the purchase was made.

The second report from 9to5Google claims that the support for the Google Card has appeared on its web browser Google Chrome.

As of now, there is no official word on the development from Google.

Google Pay has already become popular in INDIA

The GooglePay application allows users to add their physical debit card so that people can use it for their digital payments. Google might impose some interchange fee to use this card.
